Junior Camel Week 2020 status update

The Club reluctantly must announce that Junior Camel Week for 2020 has been cancelled.

This decision has not been taken lightly and we have considered the guidance offered by the government (in particular information from DCMS – The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport), the RYA, Padstow Harbour Commissioners, and our insurance company.

It remains important that organisations like ours conduct operations in line with the Government rules and guidance.  The two main sticking points are the criteria for Gatherings and Social Distancing.

DCMS has issued a summary statement to the effect that due to the limits on gatherings “it is unlikely to be possible to organise amateur events or competitions at this time“.  The RYA has issued lots of advice but it is not currently running or supporting any events.

A set of circumstances have been risk assessed covering both onshore and offshore activities for JCW. Ways to mitigate identified risks have been considered but regrettably there remain residual risks which are not covered by the current Government Guidelines.

These restrictions may change in the weeks and months to come, but at the moment it is recognised that Camel Week 2020 is also at risk. We will keep you updated.

On a more positive note the refurbishment of the Clubhouse is essentially complete, and limited bar and galley services will resume shortly. More detail will follow soon.

In the meantime the estuary is open and we are now all able to enjoy holiday and boating activities on a recreational basis.
