A message from the Commodore to all our members

Thank you for your understanding of our decision to close RSWSC given the current situation. Whilst it was obvious that it was the right and only course of action, we had some difficult conversations with people who had booked functions at the Club, including a Wedding reception, but everyone we spoke to was most understanding, not surprised we had closed, and in complete agreement that events are postponed.

I write today however, to express my concern that suddenly, Rock and the surrounding area has become inundated with second home owners descending, presumably with their own plan to ‘self isolate’ for the duration.

Government advice is quite clearly to avoid all unnecessary travel. Just because someone may own a property here, unless they are permanently resident in Cornwall, they should stay at their permanent residence. Our one main hospital in Cornwall, The Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske – Truro, is already at breaking point. Unnecessary influxes of people to Cornwall risks everyone – those of us permanently resident as well as those arriving from away.

I urge all of our Members with second homes here to please not travel, but to stay at home. This period of limited travel is not a holiday. We look forward to seeing you all here again as soon as things are better. By all playing our part in this whilst thinking of others will enable everyone to enjoy this beautiful place sooner and more safely.

If you are already down here, please do follow the NHS guidelines on hygiene and social distancing just as you would at home.

With all good wishes to you and your families,

Stuart Robertson

Commodore, RSWSC.
