Jane Austen and sailing

As well as being a renowned novelist, not many people know of Jane Austen’s interest in dinghy sailing. Sense and Sensibility was originally based on a group of Shrimper sailors, an early draft of Persuasion shared the antics of dinghy racers at protest meetings, while a pre-print edition of Pride and Prejudice investigated the cultural divisions separating water skiers and sailors (for those of you wondering what is is doing on the Club website, members Graham and Tracey Renwick are involved in the production).
