This will take place on Tuesday June 5  at about 17.30. All craft are welcome, dinghies, Shrimpers, cruisers, gigs and power boats.

We would like boats to be dressed overall and Andromeda will lead the fleet past the clubhouse and possibly the beach.

 After the parade there will be a Hog Roast on the quay or in the clubhouse as the weather dictates.

 Briefing will be at 17.00 on the quay, and everyone is welcome to join in.

If you’ve ever been to Camel Week in North Cornwall then you’ll know all about it, but if you haven’t then you’re missing out.   It’s really just a great seaside holiday week, with daily racing thrown in.  Because of the tides there is only one race a day, so there is plenty of time to play, go surfing, water-skiing, biking, fishing, sight-seeing, or just chill out on the sandy beach. 

Camel Week is the annual sailing regatta run by Rock Sailing & Water Ski Club from its club-house, an ancient converted stone warehouse leased from the Duchy of Cornwall and perched on the shore of the Camel Estuary directly across from Padstow.   

Races are run in the sheltered waters of the estuary (not too sheltered – several hundred sailors have perished on the estuary’s infamous Doom Bar over the centuries).  It is of course an open event with visitors from all over, and you’re just as likely to be calling starboard on a champion as on a holidays-only sailor. 

In 2012 racing starts on Saturday 11^th August, with a bonus “round the island” race out of the estuary on Friday 17th August. 

The schedule is provisionally as follows, with prizes for every race event: 

 This is a very civilised set of times and allows plenty of socialising/family holiday time as well as racing (dogs, incidentally, are allowed on the beach year-round).   

On the social side there will be a Live Music Night featuring “Souled Out”, a Quiz night, and a Quayside barbeque. 

Entries will be restricted to about 80 dinghies/Shrimpers and cats this year, so do pre-register to be sure of a place.  Pre-registration forms will be available on line in late Spring.

Junior Camel Week is the annual youth sailing regatta run by Rock Sailing & Water Ski Club from its clubhouse, an ancient converted stone warehouse leased from the Duchy of Cornwall and perched on the shore of the Camel Estuary directly across from Padstow.   

Races are run in the sheltered waters of the estuary with the emphasis on enjoyment, particularly for the younger sailors, with plenty of room for the more committed juniors to go all- out for gold.  It is of course an open event with visitors from all over, but there’s a large thriving contingent of junior locals too, racing everything from Toppers and Picos through to Lasers and Fevas. 

This year, Junior Camel Week racing proper starts on Friday 27^th July with a practice race the day before. 

The provisional schedule of race starts is as follows, with prizes for every event and separate daily races for grown-ups too. 

Once more this is a good schedule as it allows plenty of family holiday time (dogs, incidentally, are allowed on the beach).   There is also a Junior Camel Week Buffet Disco on the Saturday (28^th July), and a Quayside BBQ the following Monday evening.

* Junior Camel Week is an Open week for helms between the ages of 8 & 17 years (on 1st Sep 2011) and is for monohulls with Portsmouth Yardstick numbers between and including 922 and 1646 or for craft at the discretion of the Race Officer with the concurrence of the Sailing Committee.

It was suggested that this should be a regular event and to that end the ‘RSWSC on Thames’ group has been set up.

The idea is to meet at a different pub / bar in the City for a few drinks and food on a monthly basis. The pub/bar will be selected to be easily accessible by all and emails will be sent  advising of the venue in advancet to those who have expressed an interest .
