In December a number of RSWSC members who work in London met up for a Pre Christmas drink. The evening was a good opportunity for members to meet up away from Rock and share a social evening and have a few drinks.

It was suggested that this should be a regular event and to that end the ‘RSWSC en Thames’ group has been set up.

The idea is to meet at a different pub / bar in the City for a few drinks and food on a monthly basis. The pub/bar will be selected to be easily accessible by all and emails will be sent advising of the venue in advancet o those who have expressed an interest .

If you are interested in attending the next or future meeting, please send your email details to me and you will be included in future mailings.

Hope to meet you at the next meeting.

Huw Willetts

Do you recognise your pram ?

I hope this serves as an alternative way to remind you that we would like the prams off the quay by the end of October, please, as we feel morally obliged to look after them when the winter winds blow. We would prefer not to have to wrestle with the elements on those occasions to secure your pram and prevent it doing damage to our racks.

The Camel Estuary provides a magnificent backdrop for Catamarans (cats) of all sizes, but it is a jewel for beach cats. With sailing available at all states of the tide – and with a combination of protected water, sandy beaches, big waves, offshore sailing and guaranteed wind (well, most of the time…) – you couldn’t want more varied or challenging sailing conditions.

All classes of cat are welcome but the core of the home fleet consists of Hobie 16s and Dart 18s, with a smattering of Hurricanes, Shadows and A Classes that are always welcome. The Club races off PY handicaps throughout the year and there is strong menagerie fleet racing throughout the season. But don’t worry if you’re not into racing, as the Camel Estuary harks back to the spirit of the first beach cats with the ability to sail simply and efficiently into glorious beach spots that few other boats can manage.

Camel Week is the highlight of the sailing year and is one of the largest menagerie regattas outside of Cowes Week. The number of cats vary between 10-20, and the racing is close and competitive but friendly. There are separate cat starts, cups and prizes, but what makes Rock unique is in the two pursuit races held within Camel Week. Start off nearly an hour and a quarter after some of the monohulls and thunder round a course pitting your wits against anything from a Mirror to a 49er or a foiling Moth. If you think it sounds easy, come down and find out the reality for yourself…!

Whether your interests are racing, roving far and wide or wave-jumping on the fearsome breakers of Doom Bar, Rock is cat-heaven and a must for anyone who wants to improve their skills on twin hulls. From glorious family days on sun-kissed beaches to twin-trapese roaring gales, we think you’ll find what you’re looking for.

So strap yourself into the nearest Force 6 and blast yourself into sailing nirvana with Rock Sailing and Waterski Club.
